Production plant opened for e-drive solutions

The first Morat Swoboda Motion plant – a Swoboda and Franz Morat Group joint venture – was recently opened in Nowa Ruda. Since the middle of the year, the company has been producing drive components there for electromobility applications, and around 40 employees are processing the first large orders.

Electromobility is one of the key technologies for future mobility concepts. Besides e-cars, e-scooters and e-buses, bicycles powered by electricity are particularly popular. E-bike sales in Europe passed the 2 million mark for the first time in 2018. Whether it’s city bikes for urban spaces, mountain or trekking bikes for leisure time or cargo bikes for transporting things that last mile or so: this sector is expected to grow further in the next few years.

In March 2018, Swoboda and the Franz Morat Group kicked off the Morat Swoboda Motion joint venture in keeping with these trends. Construction of the new 4,500 square meter joint production plant in the Polish city of Nowa Ruda began back in June 2018. Production started in July of this year.

“At the new plant, we are targeting e-mobility by combining the market and technological expertise of two family businesses,” says Swoboda owner Matthias Groth.
The product range spans various gearwheels and shafts that help reliably drive the motors used in e-bikes. The plant can be extended on a modular basis. The production area can be increased via a new hall of around 7,500 square meters for further large-scale orders. Besides gear components for e-bike motors, the Morat Swoboda Motion range also includes wheel sets for electric steering systems, rotor shafts for electric cars or planetary gears for e-scooters.
